Treasures from the Janowski Archives, Vol. I

Anyone who has gone into the cantor's office at KAM Isaiah Israel knows the large row of seven file cabinets completely stuffed with music.  Some of the space is taken up with published scores by a variety of composers.  Much more space is devoted to the published works of Max Janowski, our chief composer.  A tantalizing third category is the large amount of unpublished compositions and arrangements that exist only in manuscript, and sometimes only in that office.

This third group ranges from simple melodies and hastily jotted down arrangements to full scale concert works for cantor, choir and organ.  There are liturgical pieces, art songs, settings of popular Israeli melodies, arrangements of Yiddish folk songs... the list goes on.

In honor of Max Janowski's 25th Yahrzeit we at KAM Isaiah Israel are publishing a selection of those never before published compositions and arrangements.  The pieces in the book have been meticulously curated and edited by Cantor David Berger to be truly useful and perform-able in contemporary synagogues.

We hope that through this book cantors and lovers of Jewish music around the world will re-discover Janowski's music.

Many of you had your own personal connection to Max Janowski, or have come to know him through his music - and we want to offer you the opportunity to be a part of this new book.  All proceeds generated by this book will benefit the musical programming here at KAM Isaiah Israel.
