Solidarity with our neighbors: Chicago immigrants and their allies.

Tuesday, January 14, 2020 17 Tevet 5780

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Attacks on the human rights of immigrants and asylum seekers are in the news every day. Sorting out exactly what is happening in the US and across the world can be confusing and a bit overwhelming to the concerned observer or activist. For the final part of our three-part series, Susan Gzesh, Executive Director at the Pozen Family Center for Human Rights, will be joined by Marla Bramble of our partner organization JCUA and by Fred Tsao of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights – for a discussion of what KAMII members can do to support our immigrant neighbors on the local, state, and national level.

Marla Bramble, Assoc. Director & Director of Organizing,  joined JCUA as the Director of Organizing in 2014. With more than 15 years of organizing in Chicago, Marla brings a passion for justice and a breadth of campaign experience and relationships to the new position. She previously built a grassroots leadership development program and has worked with various coalitions to win victories on community, city, and statewide issues.

Fred Tsao is the Senior Policy Counsel at ICIRR, providing technical support, trainings, and presentations on immigration-related topics to service providers, immigrant community organizations, and others who work with immigrants. He also provides updates and analysis of changes in immigration policies and procedures to ICIRR members and allies, and assists with the coalition's legislative advocacy efforts. A self-described “recovering attorney,” Fred practiced law at the Rockford office of Prairie State Legal Services and with the ACLU of Illinois, the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, and the Missouri Public Interest Research Group. A native of Chicago, Fred is the son of immigrants from China, and has had a lifelong concern with immigration issues.
