Munch and Learn 2018-19
Our Munch and Learn group meets at the synagogue monthly at Noon on Tuesdays throughout the year. All are welcome for interesting conversation on a wide variety of topics. Bring a friend and, as always, we'll provide some snacks!
October 9: League of Women Voters
Midterm Elections: What to know and how to get out the vote
In addition to a presentation from a representative of the League of Women Voters, we'll be joined by Larry Joseph, chair of the Social Justice Committee at KAM Isaiah Israel. We'll learn more about what our congregation is working on with regards to voter registration and the midterm elections.
November 13: Mary Helen Ekstam, JourneyCare
Music and the Brain
Ms. Ekstam is a board certified music therapist who has worked in hospice and palliative care for many years, using music to enrich lives and reduce stress. This spirited, interactive program will get your toes tapping and your heart singing.
December 11: Malka Simkovich
Was There a Doctrine of Zionism in Early Judaism?
Dr. Malka Simkovich is an Orthodox Jewish Scholar whose research focuses on the intersection of Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity. She is the Crown-Ryan chair of Jewish Studies and Director of Catholic-Jewish Studies at Catholic Theological Union.
January 8: Emily Barr
The Coverage of Local Versus National News and Can We Tell "Fake News" When We See It?
Temple member Emily Barr is the President and CEO of Graham Media Group, the television broadcasting division of Graham Holdings. Prior to joining Graham Media, Emily was the President and Station Manager of ABC Channel 7 in Chicago for 15 years.

March 12: Barbara Flynn Currie
Barbara Flynn Currie was a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1979 to 2019 and served as the Majority Leader from 1997 to 2019. Hers is the longest tenure of any woman to serve in the Illinois General Assembly. She is a member of the Chicago League of Women Voters, the Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership, Women United for South Shore, and the Board of the ACLU of Illinois. She is active in many civic, community, and environmental organizations.
April 9: Lois Gordon
Lois Gordon is a lawyer who has a lifelong interest in art and art history. She is a Munch and Learn favorite who has done several outstanding programs for us.
May 14: The return of the Munch and Learn Book Club
