Founded in 2009 by Robert Nevel z”l, KAM Isaiah Israel’s award-winning, nationally recognized Food Justice & Sustainability program is one of our community’s answers to the call for Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). By transforming unproductive lawns into urban farms, food forests, and pollinator gardens, we seek to promote basic human needs and rights – access to nourishing, wholesome food and a healthy environment. The food we grow goes to people in need in our immediate South Side neighborhood, through our partner soup kitchens, food pantries, and senior centers. Over the program’s 15+ years, we have also helped other congregations turn their lawns into spaces for food production. Our interfaith, intergenerational group of volunteers work from spring to fall tending the gardens and growing and delivering food. We’d love to have you join us!
