"Justice for Animals" a Words and Music event with Dr. Martha C. Nussbaum Musical selections by: Cantor David Berger, tenor Dr. Osnat Netzer, piano Saturday, April 27th, 12:00PM
One of the most celebrated intellectuals of our time, Martha C. Nussbaum, The Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago, will speak on her recent book, Justice for Animals: Our Collective Responsibility. Written in memory of her beloved daughter Rachel and her lifelong commitment to animal rights, the Chicago Review of Books proclaims about it that "All readers, not only readers already committed to animal rights, ought to read Nussbaum’s new book. Following Nussbaum’s arguments, we can discover new ways of seeing animals with wonder and compassion. And we can hone our senses of outrage and use that outrage to fuel our efforts to build a better world for all us animals." Accompanying Dr. Nussbaum, Cantor David Berger together with Dr. Osnat Netzer, Assistant Professor of Composition at DePaul University, will present music inspired by the vivid nature imagery of the Song of Songs, the biblical book traditionally recited on the Shabbat of Passover, and other Jewish music celebrating the animal kingdom.
